UPDATE: I decided to go back and tweak Jaheira's face a bit. I've uploaded the new version here, but if you prefer the old version, it can still be found here.
I need to bulk up my portfolio with some fantasy pieces, so I've decided to take on a project I've wanted to do for quite a while: Baldur's Gate portraits. I've always loved seeing other artists' interpretations of the characters, and figured some day in the distant future I'd give it a shot too, but this ended up being a good time for it. I may not have time to do every single character, but I'll at least do the mainstays from the second game, and move on from there as I have time.
I want to try a slightly different approach with these than other packs I've seen. I figure, if I'm going to put yet another portrait pack out there, it should have something to distinguish itself. So I'm giving myself a lot of freedom with formatting, and focusing on making portraits that are designed more as works of fan art than functional portraits. Now, that might not make them the most ideal portraits for the game, but hopefully it'll make for more interesting pieces than simple straight-on busts. Once I have a few more done I'll release the portrait-ized versions, but if anyone wants to use them in their game before that, feel free to download and alter them to your heart's content. If you want to share them elsewhere, feel free, but please credit me with a link back to my work.
All right, now that's out of the way, here's a few notes on my thinking for this piece. With Jaheira, I've always preferred her BGI portrait, but there are things about her BGII portrait that I like too, so I tried to create kind of a hybrid between the two. I went with brown hair, and pulled her features a little more towards her BGI appearance, but also brought in the elf aesthetic used in BGII. The scarf she's wearing is Khalid's, from his BGI portrait. I thought it would be sweet for her to have a keepsake.The armor isn't based on anything from the game; I was going for a mix between kind of druid-looking, but also fighter-looking.

Once I have a few more of these done I'll be releasing the portrait-ized versions in a pack, but in the meantime feel free to later & use these in your game. You may also share the original image, but please link back to this page if you post it elsewhere.
